Maternal Fetal Medicine (High Risk Pregnancy)
Throughout our lives, many of us face a variety unique health issues. Some are a routine part of aging while others are urgent medical or obstetric problems. But all can pose challenges for patients and their physicians. CMC Women’s Institute is here to help meet those challenges. The physicians and staff of the Institute specialize in the diagnosis and management of women's medical and reproductive conditions, as well as other health concerns.

Their specialists provide state-of-the-art care for women with high-risk pregnancies. They have a stellar team of maternal-fetal medicine specialists, genetic counselors, sonographers and nurses that are at the cutting-edge of clinical management in high-risk pregnancies. CMC Women’s Institute of maternal-fetal medicine specialists are specially trained to perform detailed level II ultrasound, fetal echocardiography and diagnostic tests such a chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis and fetal blood sampling. They perform ultrasound-guided in-utero blood transfusions and other in-utero procedures if necessary.

Pelvic Floor Disorders (Urogynecology)
CMC Women’s Institute focuses on providing the evaluation and management that can help patients find relief and move toward a more normal life. Their pelvic medicine physicians specialize in gynecologic surgery and urogynecology. 

Because hormone levels and muscle tone change with age, stress incontinence (leakage of urine while coughing, laughing or during exercise or lifting) can become a problem for middle-aged women (or for many women who have given birth… just look around the room in your next Y Power Hour class, you'll know you aren't alone when you see fellow moms doing the fake half-jumping jack)!  The center’s physicians use urogynecologic tests to pinpoint the cause of the problem and develop solutions.

Carolinas Medical Center also offers a women’s health program that treats adult women patients with chronic pelvic pain, stress incontinence and urge incontinence. Treatment interventions include biofeedback, relaxation techniques, pelvic floor strengthening, core strengthening, stretching, manual therapy and recommendations for lifestyle changes.

Other specialty services include gynecologic sonography, pelvic reconstructive surgery, and invasive procedures such as ovarian cyst aspiration and laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy.
