I love the movie Almost Famous. I identified with the journalist who loved music and loved to write. Those are two of my passions, and it got me thinking. I could do a music review right here on Charlotte Smarty Pants. Now this blog is going to be more Raffi than Rolling Stone, but that’s ok.

When I first had my daughter, I knew I wanted to expose her to music at an early age. I was that mom who played classical music during Tummy Time and while driving in the car. But that got old pretty quick. I still wanted music she could enjoy, but something my husband and I could enjoy as well. And unfortunately, there is some really bad stuff out there. I can only take so much of I’m a Little Teapot before I start to twitch. So began my quest to find kid friendly tunes won’t make parents want to stick a hot poker in their ears. Now I’m not promising you that these songs won’t stick in your head for days on end, but they are fun and real crowd pleasers with the little ones.

By Leigh Ann Kelley, the winner of the “8 Weeks to Your Awesome Self” Giveaway

Wow, I can’t believe that I have finished the 8 weeks to an awesome you contest. It has been a fun and rewarding experience. I’ll admit, at first I was terrified and wondered what I had gotten myself into. Right before each new thing I tried I would be nervous about it, but they all ended up being enjoyable. As women, and especially mothers, we don’t usually take time for ourselves. We tend to get wrapped up in the needs of our family but it’s important to take a step back and make sure we are doing some things for ourselves also.

This past summer, I had this crazy idea about a big car campaign and all I kept thinking about was MAJOR PINK. Hmmm, I wonder why?! But something inside was telling me that I should partner with another platform to make it more fun, but I just wasn't sure. Until I met Rebecca Plaisance with South Charlotte Macaroni Kid. It was like two sisters colliding, I knew it was the perfect match. And that's when the <a href="http://www.charlottesmartypants.com/2011/10/have-you-liked-bob-mayberry-moms-yet/"target="_blank">Smarty & Macaroni cars were born.

I can’t stop thinking about the newly viral You Tube video posted by Tommy Jordan, entitled Facebook Parenting: For the Troubled Teen. You can watch it below if you haven’t seen it.

So many parents have jumped on this guy’s bandwagon and are responding to his video with verbal “pats on the back” and accolades for being a great dad.

What?!

We can all agree that this teen’s behavior was rude, offensive, and punishable.

I hope we also agree that sometimes our kids can drive us to the brink of insanity and that we might have irrational and outrageous reactions to having our buttons pushed.

Raise your hand if you’re ready for some warmer weather! (Me, Me, Me!) While summer may still be a few months away, it is time to start planning for it asap. Especially if you plan on signing your kids up for summer camps. For working moms, this is when survival mode kicks in since you have to map out every single day of summer when school gets out. For SAHM's, camp serves as an enrichment program for kids to explore the things they like and give moms a break. Regardless of your working status, the camp opportunities in Charlotte and surrounding areas are plentiful, but you need to get your game on N-O-W as camps fill up fast! So we've put together some Smarty tips to consider when mapping out your camp plans, as well as a few of our tried and true Smarty camp faves.
