Whoa, how did that happen so fast?
Motherhood: the days are long, but the years are short.
I think about that quote so often when it’s 3:30 pm and I’m faced with an evening of homework, dinner, baths, and bedtime and a husband who travels. It helps me appreciate the little moments and know that this, too, shall pass. Quickly.
I try very hard to live in the moment – I hate dwelling on the past because it either makes me sad that my older kids aren’t babies anymore or it makes me feel way too old. Plus, I am a realist – my days are not always blissful – I’ve got four young kids who are often nagging or needing me and I don’t want to look back on these years wishing for them and forgetting just how hard they were (plus no one can tell me the newborn phase is easy. It just isn’t).
But there are some moments in motherhood that will just plain take your breath away.

Here’s the scoop: Britax is traveling to Charlotte in the Britax Expect Greatness Tour to celebrate the starring role the company’ s baby products play in the upcoming movie, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” (which looks pretty hilarious). They’ll be in specially branded Britax and “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” mini-vans (note to Jen: must get the Smarty Party over there pronto and show off our pink and green!)

Trendy hair ties for pennies
Have you seen the new hair ties cropping up all around Charlotte? I LOVE them – they are soft, hardly make a dent in my (very straight) hair, and are super cute hanging out on your wrist when you’re not using them. They are perfect for a yoga, Pilates, or Pure Barre workout but hold my hair just fine for a run. My daughter even loves them! I don’t, however, love the rather steep price tag that I’ve seen around town. I tend to lose things, so nope, I can’t justify that one and I’m guessing many of you can’t either.
Well, Smarties, have I got some fun news for you! They are super easy and cheap to make – you don’t have to be craftsy or a sewing expert either – if you know how to tie a knot, you can make these oh-so-trendy hair ties in record time (here’s where I need to give a shout out to my friend Adrienne who showed me just how easy it is – she’s a super Smarty mom in my opinion!).

Smarty Mom: Erica Lineberry
Flip through your latest Athleta catalog or peruse its web site, and you might come across Charlottean Erica Lineberry. Athleta, a women’s technical apparel company owned by Gap, Inc., recently chose Erica as one of twenty women to be a 2012 sponsored athlete on its Athleta Chi blog. Wahoo! We are so proud to have a local mom represented!
Erica’s passion (besides being a wife and mother) is rock climbing. Her blog, Cragmama.com chronicles her life as a rock-climbing-mother-extraordinare and offers helpful tips and resources for other parents to enjoy nature and the outdoors with their children. (I, for one, love her blog – I have a bit of a snake-phobia (no camping for me!) but her posts and pictures might just inspire me to Just Do It for my kids’ sakes.)
